ad fontes media Inc

Ad Fontes Media, Inc. is a company founded in 2018 by Vanessa Otero, creator of the Media Bias Chart®. The mission of Ad Fontes Media is “to make news consumers smarter and news media better.” Ad Fontes rates the news for reliability and bias to help people navigate the news landscape. Ad Fontes is Latin for “to the source,” because at the heart of what Ad Fontes Media does is look at the source—analyze the very content itself—to rate it. Ad Fontes has created a system of news content ratings that has beneficial applications for all stakeholders in a healthy news media landscape, including consumers, educators, journalism outlets, researchers, advertisers, and social media platforms. Ad Fontes currently creates ratings with a small team of human analysts who have political views from across the spectrum. The analysts are trained to look at the content of the news and score it according to a consistent methodology. Ad Fontes provides the news source ratings themselves as a reference product for consumers and educators—mainly through through its widely known Media Bias Chart. Ad Fontes also now offers a software platform for educators to teach students how to rate the news using its approach. Ad Fontes Media is incorporated as a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC) in Colorado. The stated public benefit of Ad Fontes Media is the same as its mission. It is currently funded by its founder, by a crowdfunding campaign which ran in late 2018, by sales of licenses, prints, data products, and educational products, and by donations (non-tax-deductible) by individuals who believe in its mission.

Digital Journal

Founded on the Internet in 1998, DigitalJournal.com began as a technology news site. When our readers started asking to take part in the news-gathering process, we jumped at the idea and in 2006 we started our paid citizen journalism site and we opened up to cover various types of news. Evolving quite a bit since 2006, DigitalJournal.com is now a news home to many people who want to read news, contribute to reporting, debate and discuss news and events from around the world. DigitalJournal.com is a social news site powered by citizens like you. Made up of professional journalists, citizen journalists, bloggers, passionate writers and regular Joes and Janes, DigitalJournal.com covers news and issues of the day from multiple perspectives. DigitalJournal.com has citizen reporters all over the globe, and you too can contribute to one of the fastest-growing news sites in the world. Set up a free account in minutes and you can start contributing immediately: Write news articles and blogs, upload images, embed videos, join or start your own Groups, comment on articles, blogs and photos, and vote for articles and images that matter to you. While everyone can contribute to DigitalJournal.com through blogs, images, video and groups, we also offer citizen journalists a chance to get paid to report the news. DigitalJournal.com is a community where citizen journalists get paid for reporting news. Unlike most websites where bloggers post for free (and the company takes in all the ad revenue), DigitalJournal.com shares a portion of its advertising revenue with all Citizen Journalists through what we call a "moneypot." With an always-growing cash pool, every Citizen Journalist gets a chance to compete for a share of the moneypot. The more you contribute, the more you earn. Scores are determined based on how many articles you contribute and how high they rank. Whether you&s;re a professional journalist, an amateur blogger or just someone with an opinion, DigitalJournal.com is the Web&s;s best source to find breaking news, debate current events, learn about the hottest trends and earn cash to write about topics you are passionate about.

BetaKit

Something is missing in emerging technology reporting today. There’s a focus on amount of money raised instead of innovation and quality of a product or service. A wealth of coverage on what the big, established players are releasing next instead of reporting on what’s new and innovative. An emphasis placed on being first to report, rather than providing in-depth analysis. An echo chamber of Silicon Valley happenings with little attention paid to the rest of the world. Too much opinion and bias, not enough journalistic integrity. Enough is enough. At BetaKit, we care about providing the what, but we’re also committed to explaining why it matters. Breaking news is important, but so is relating news to larger industry trends, and telling you why you and your company should care. BetaKit is a new publication dedicated to providing original, real-time reporting and analysis of emerging technology news and global innovation. Built by the team behind Sprouter.com, BetaKit draws upon an established community of over 80,000 emerging technology founders who are building the next big thing. Find out what’s next, and what’s right now – from the people who see innovation as it happens.

VoxPop

VoxPop is a tool created for media outlets willing to create a deeper interaction with their public, engaging them through a question/answer mechanism. We give to journalists the possibility to collect newsworthy material and relevant stories. From everyone. From everywhere. VoxPop step-by-step: - A media creates a short video introducing a topic and question users about it. - The &s;video-question&s; is spread through the media channels. - People involved with the topic can provide a short &s;video-answer&s;. - The video-answers are shown by the media according to different standards. - Media gets the correct geolocation and time of the videos collected. Our goal is to foster grassroots information while providing to the media a way to generate valuable videos without the hassle of verifying location, time and source. VoxPop is a way to refresh an old journalistic practice and adapt it to the new generation of communicators, while fostering job opportunities within newsrooms.

Allvoices

Allvoices (www.allvoices.com) uses technology and a global community to collect, validate and distribute user-generated news from around the world. The site creates an almost instantaneous and fully-realized news package around as little information as a text message or tweet by pulling in and wrapping around related information from mainstream news and user generated content like blogs, videos, and pictures. Called the "Automated News Room," Allvoices presents a 360 view of news events from multiple perspectives. The same technology vets contributions for authenticity and credibility, giving Allvoices citizen journalism&s;s first and only "Report Credibility Meter." In just over a year, Allvoices has attracted more than four million unique visitors a month and a world-wide community of contributors in excess of 200,000, making Allvoices the largest user-generated news site on the web. Using proprietary algorithms, Allvoices scours more than 3,500 mainstream feeds and online, real-time sources of news like Twitter to provide relevancy and context for user-submitted news reports. This provides a level of security and vets contributed stories for authenticity. Story rank on the home page is determined by the number and diversity of other sources citing the particular news event, and community activity on the report. The algorithm behind the Report Credibility meter is a proprietary, multi-faceted and adaptable approach to evaluating the trustworthiness of a report. At the core of the Allvoices&s; system are the everyday citizens and contributing-journalists that create news reports. The Report Credibility meter is an evaluation of the actual report content, as well as the reputation of the author of the report. As stories move through the different pages on Allvoices, the meter registers new levels of credibility for both the story content and contributor. The final determination of credibility is evaluated on a number of criteria, including: * How much does the community like or dislike content from the author? * How much does the community like or dislike the actual report? * How many other Allvoices contributors are reporting about the same thing? * How many other mainstream sources have supporting content about the report? As users interact more and more with the Allvoices platform, the system learns more about the user, which in turn allows Allvoices to more accurately determine the authenticity of their reports. However, contributors to the site don&s;t have to be long-time users. A new user can also have high credibility for their contribution as a function of time. When a new user reports a story it enters the Allvoices system with low credibility. But, as the story moves through the site&s;s three news cycles—"This Just In," "Breaking," and "Popular"—it gains credibility, and will appear as a top-ranked news item. In turn, the story credibility helps with the reputation of the new user. Either alone—just people or just the algorithm—would be insufficient as a way to vet stories, but Allvoices&s; man-machine collaboration complements the strengths of each.

Groundreport

GroundReport is a global citizen journalism platform that enables anyone to publish news reports and videos and reach a global audience. With a mission statement to &s;democratize the media,&s; GroundReport&s;s base of over 7,000 international contributors report from the scene of world events, in theory, to provide local insight and spin-free authenticity. To establish trust, GroundReport uses a Wikipedia-like model of volunteer editors and community feedback, combined with a 5-star rating system. Contributors retain rights to their work, and can choose a range of Creative Commons licenses. The New York-based company was founded by Rachel Sterne in 2006, inspired by her work reporting on Darfur at the United Nations. GroundReport is distinguished from citizen journalism competitors like NowPublic in its original content-only policy. Plagiarized and copyright-infringing material are strictly prohibited from GroundReport, and offending users banned from the site. The site updates constantly and report 75-100 new stories per day. All GroundReport contributors receive automatic monthly payments via PayPal based on the unique traffic to their posts. Most GroundReport contributors are professionally trained journalists or journalism students. In June 2008, GroundReport became the first citizen journalism platform to use the YouTube API for its on-demand video publishing. Shortly thereafter, GroundReport became an official partner channel, and a flagship participant in their newly launched &s;reporter&s; category. Among YouTube&s;s official Beijing Olympics content partners, including the Associated Press, Reuters and New York Times, GroundReport was the only citizen news source. In the live-streaming space, GroundReport is a featured flagship channel on broadcast platform Mogulus. GroundReport&s;s live video coverage of the Democratic Debates, Aspen Institute and panel discussions including media figures like Arianna Huffington and Jeff Jarvis has been featured on Huffington Post, Salon, Silicon Alley Insider and TechCrunch.

First Draft

Getting it right from the source: A collection of articles &a; case studies offering best practice advice &a; guidance for handling eyewitness media. Imagine the following situation: you’re sitting at your computer or looking at your mobile phone when suddenly you come across a powerful first-person video on YouTube, or a visceral image on Twitter, depicting a breaking news event. You want to share it, but it’s coming from a source or a person you’ve never heard of before so you find yourself wondering… “is this real?” If you’re a journalist working in a newsroom today, it’s likely you’ve found yourself in this situation many times before if not many times a day. In those crucial moments in the aftermath of a breaking news event, like the Charlie Hebdo attacks in Paris or the earthquake in Nepal, eyewitness documentation can be essential to piecing together what happened. The revolution in user-generated news content presents a great opportunity to expand our view of the world, but it also raises entirely new challenges for the news industry to grapple with. How &a; where do you find these images? How can you verify that they are authentic &a; genuine? Do you have the right to use them? The First Draft Coalition is a group of thought leaders and pioneers in social media journalism who are coming together to help you answer these questions, through training and analysis of eyewitness media. Our founding members, from different organisations &a; projects, are each dedicated to raising awareness and improving standards around the use of content sourced from the social web. They are Bellingcat, Eyewitness Media Hub, Emergent, Meedan, Reported.ly, Storyful &a; Verification Junkie. Our aim is to open up the conversation around eyewitness media in news reporting with a strong focus on ethics, verification, copyright &a; protection, and we want to reach &a; hear from everyone in the journalism community, including students, lecturers, local reporters &a; international editors.

The Big Roundtable

The Big Roundtable publishes narrative nonfiction (aka longform) and conducts experiments is a digital publishing platform that aims to connect passionate nonfiction writers with readers who will support their work. They do this through experimental methods of gathering, selecting, editing, and distributing ambitious narrative stories, and, eventually, researching the reading and sharing behavior around those stories. And by convening forums—online and in person—where writers can learn and connect for mutual support. The inspiration for The Big Roundtable came from the Algonquin Round Table, a group of New York City writers who called themselves “The Vicious Circle” and who’d meet at the Algonquin Hotel in the early 20th century. They were vicious; they are not.

Muslim Girl

We’re normalizing the word “Muslim” for both Muslims and non-Muslims alike. MuslimGirl.net was launched from the bedroom of a high school girl that was fed up with the misleading misconceptions surrounding Islam — the way the news coverage and media outlets kept skewing the image of Muslims into a nasty one; the mistrust, racism, and flat-out hatred that the inaccuracies flamed; the muting of young Muslim voices from mainstream society; and the resulting disillusionment that young Muslims suffer about their religion in the tornado of it all. We at MuslimGirl are taking back the narrative. We use our own voices to speak up for ourselves. We are raising the place of Muslim women in mainstream society. We are drawing awareness to the Qur’an’s message of gender equality and Islam’s principle of peace. We are paving the way towards a world in which every woman can raise her head without fear of being attacked for her gender or beliefs. We write articles that relate to young modern women all over the globe and kickstart an open honest dialogue about Islam in today’s society. Here at MuslimGirl we like to talk about things that might be a little too embarrassing for mom, to bridge the gap between different religions through the spirit of sisterhood, and to host interfaith discussion to combat growing stereotypes within our society and tackle social issues that may otherwise be shied away from. We are pioneering our own paths as Muslim women living in today’s modern society, and this is our story.

E! Science News

(e) Science News is an online platform, ensuring its users have access to the latest and popular science breakthroughs. It is powered by the (e) news engine, a fully automated artificial intelligence. (e) Science News constantly surfs the web to gather, regroup, categorize, tag, and rank science news from all science news sources. (e) Science News computes relationships between science articles and news found on the web using a vector space model and hierarchical clustering. It then automatically determines in which category each news item belongs using a Naive Bayes classifier. Finally, it examines multiple parameters for each news group. The result is an (e) score which represents the relative importance of a news item. (e) Science News was built and is maintained by Michael Imbeault, currently post-doc in Dr Didier Trono’s lab. It is based in Quebec, Canada.

uFollow

uFollow is a free service that connects readers with authors online. The site allows users to search a curated database of articles from blogs, magazines and newspapers and build a stream of content that interests them. uFollow offers both a simple alternative to an RSS reader and a way to search the web for written material. Once users have built a stream, they can choose to consume it on uFollow.com or export it as a feed to their reader of choice. uFollow enables users to break down and reorganize feeds in new ways, most notably at the author level. Users can choose to follow the entire feed of a blog or extract only the articles of the author or authors who interest them most. As uFollow tracks the work of authors across sites, authors writing in multiple locations can use uFollow to keep readers up-to-date when they publish a new piece. For authors and publishers, uFollow offers a simple syndication tool and a dynamic replacement for a blog roll. For readers, it offers new ways to refine the content they consume, encouraging deeper engagement between readers and the individuals who influence them online.

Our products are: - Newspaper Blogorola - Blog aggregate Blogorola.com - Internet radio Radio NULA Blogorola: Blogorola is an example of hybrid media which includes a blogger network and a weekly printed edition. On the internet, Blogorola is a blog aggregator that pools blog posts from blogs that have subscribed to the aggregator. The printed edition with the same name is issued weekly with a circulation of 50,000. All the content of the printed version is entirely made up from blog contributions hand picked by the Blogorola editiorial staff. Blogorola launched on 29th of November, 2007 and now aggregates over 3.500 blogs with a network of over 550 citizen journalists. Blogorola.com: Blogorola.com is the largest blog aggregate in south east Europe aggregating blogs from Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. Radio NULA: Radio NULA started as an extension of radio show BreakWave that DJs Borka and Ozo hosted regularly on Radio Student in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Our bi-weekly frequency left us wishing the great music we were playing continued to be available 24 hours a day... so we picked the best tracks from our shows and combined it in one ultimate playlist and started Radio NULA Shoutcast radio. We play quality Soul, Funk, HipHop, Disco, Drum&s;n&s;Bass.... always hand picked by Code.EP DJ&s;s.

StoryShelter

StoryShelter is the Social Space to Share Life&s;s Stories. Every person has a story to tell. And not just one story. Many stories! Stories they don’t want to forget. Stories that they want to tell their children someday. Stories they want to tell without revealing their identity. Stories that they want to share with their friends and family! But social media sites aren’t a good place to post life stories, keeping a journal is a thing of the past and many people don’t want to create their own blog. So where can people go to fulfill this need? StoryShelter: The Social Space to Share Life’s Stories. StoryShelter is the only place online where you can easily write, share and save true stories from your life and also read compelling life stories from others. Using a Q&a;A format, StoryShelter asks questions about life, love, friends, family and more. You can also write your own stories if you have something specific in mind you want to share. You can choose to post each story publicly, anonymously, or to a group of your choosing. StoryShelter is a safe place to store your hopes, insights, and memories – leaving a legacy of not just what you “liked” or who you “followed” – but who you really are, in your own words. The story filter also makes it easy to read stories about topics that interest you and by people who you want to learn more about. What do my female friends think is the hardest thing about parenting? How does the average 20 or 60 yr old male answer the same question? No other platform can give you that kind of insight – often when you need it most. Read. Write. Share – Repeat.

Indiconews

[Indiconews.com](http://www.indiconews.com) is a global civic media news website. The aim of the site is to create a greater sense of identity within the news process where the audience is no longer passive but part of an ongoing conversation. [Indiconews.com](http://www.indiconews.com) does this by not only enabling users to upload reports/comments/eyewitness updates according to location and category as text, multi-images and video, but also via a range of innovative features, including: [Assignments:](http://www.indiconews.com/assignment/view_all_assignments): Indiconews.com users set assignments according to what they define as newsworthy. Other members can then take up the assignment, providing a range of views and news perspectives associated with the topic. This creates an immediate, yet deeper &s;discussion&s;, challenging one-dimensional news or issue reportage. [Tip-off](http://www.indiconews.com): A more focused assignment feature, "Tip-off" allows the local user to assign specific members within their locality to report anything from a music festival to a political rally. This helps build hyper-local news while drawing on civic media reporters local knowledge. ["Interview Me"](http://www.indiconews.com/interview/search_interviewee): A feature that matches reporter&s;s interview needs with registered indiconews &s;experts&s;. It is a mutually beneficial system - reporters get relevant information, from source, while the &s;interviewed&s; get coverage in the news. Authenticity of interviewee&s;s expertise is based on supporting information provided by the &s;expert&s; from which the reporter can evaluate their relevance for their news feature. Since rolling out public Beta V2 in March 09, Indiconews.com has been added to [MIT&s;s Center for Future Civic Media](http://civic.mit.edu/projects/community/indiconewscom) network of civic media innovators. **Standards in Civic Media Series** Indiconews.com have also launched their ["Standards in Civic Media"](http://www.indiconews.com/article/view/113) series. This is an ongoing project that will examine the need, if any, for a &s;code of conduct&s; for civic media sites. They plan to draw on the insight, opinions and expertise of industry insiders, academics, journalists and of course the community of civic media users. It is hoped that the collaborative piece of work (competitors and partners alike are encouraged to engage with it) will eventually find a home of it&s;s own, independent of Indiconews.com - most likely as a wiki-style resource. Whatever the findings, indiconews.com hope the "Standards in Civic Media" ["Standards in Civic Media"](http://www.indiconews.com/article/view/113) series will produce some very interesting contributions which will shape civic media&s;s future during its development.

Write and promote your content without having to create a blog. InsideWord is a news and blogging platform where your content is aggregated and/or synced into a centralized newspaper. Posted articles are instantly publicized so the community can discover them. If you sign up, your individual articles can be combined into a user profile and the content can be grown into your own customizable blog. InsideWord combines the best elements of blogs (personalization) and newspapers (community). Instead of just aggregating blog links, trending content is promoted; instead of reading blogs in traditional reverse-chronological order, content is dynamic and displayed like a newspaper; and instead of content only being written on separate domains, content can be published first on InsideWord and then synced to your personal site (or vice versa).

WeShare Network

WeShare Network is a place for friends family and businesses. You can create groups of any size, blogs, articles, job postings, classifieds, events, chat, forums and stores. WeShare Network was created because of some of the missing key features in many of the largest networks online. Many of the current social or group networks have made navigation a bit complicated. There have been issues with privacy changes among other privacy conflicts. Many people have been searching for a better more simple way to control their privacy settings. We wanted an environment where people could search within categories to find products, information from stores, forums and blogs. Employers have a section for job postings and advertisement for their businesses. As WeShare Network grows the benefits within will continue to always bring more interesting and useful features. We wanted to create an environment where everyone could come and have the ability to socialize with family and friends or promote themselves or their business. WeShare Network was created with easy navigation and usability in mind. WeShare Network does not track, rent or sell any personal information. With WeShare Network you can create groups for friends, family, special interests, and more. You can separate family from business by creating or joining groups with different interests. You also have the ability to create blogs, articles, events, group chat, forums, job postings, advertise, and create classifieds. Weshare Network has the ability to e-mail or IM internally. As WeShare will grow there will be added features that are very useful in the personal and business environments. You also have the ability to create a store front and shop the stores within WeShare Network with your personal shopping cart. All of these features and many more were created to be easy to use with simple navigation. At WeShare we will continue to better the WeShare experience for the people that join the Weshare Network. Join and invite the planet...
