Sun Plugged Energy provides rural communities with renewable energy solutions. The solutions will have a solar home solution coupled with a mobile tablet. The mobile tablet will enable the customers to connect to the internet. These are offered as a financial solution to the communities with repayment on a Pay-As-You-Go model over a period of 9 – 12 months, through mobile money payment platforms or microfinance institutions. Community-based sales agents are being used to distribute these solutions in rural communities. Existing solutions on the market in Zimbabwe are only catering to energy access, but do not focus on connectivity through mobile tablets, productive uses, and financial inclusion by offering these products as a financial package. This innovation has a data collection component which then combines usage data plus credit data to understand further and analytically prescribe solutions for these communities and improve the service offering in the future. Sun Plugged&s;s offerings will enable disenfranchised communities to prosper, develop and participate in the broader economy. The planned eco system seeks to transform the livelihoods of beneficiaries by providing them with their basic electricity requirements whilst offering them opportunities to progress up the energy value chain and launch or enhance existing micro-businesses and other economic activities through product value addition.
