SKS metaplas, which is a German manufacturer brand, is able to draw on a history of “Made in Germany” products. Karl Scheffer-Klute founded the company in Sundern, Germany in 1921 (SKS = Scheffer-Klute Sundern). Since 1932, pump production has been going on. The production of plastic pumps, which was the key breakthrough, was introduced in 1956. From then on, mass production for OEM ended up dominating the product range until the 1990s. The maximum number of pumps delivered per day was 50,000 in peak years. A high-quality hand pump or track pump dominates today&s;s pump portfolio. Taking over the traditional British brand Bluemels in 1983, the company entered the mudguard market. The first extruded mudguards were produced in 1988 at a large scale. After taking over ESGE production, those became a worldwide reference for full coverage mudguards, known as Chromoplastics. SKS became a pioneer and market leader in the fast-growing after-sales segment of mountain bikes in 1999 with the development of the first quick-release mudguard-set (Shockboard and X-Tra Dry).
