Nearthlab is a technology-driven startup founded by M.S. and Ph.D. graduates in aerospace engineering from KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology), often called the “MIT of Korea.” Nearthlab is focusing on developing autonomous drones, powered by proprietary deep learning algorithm, to automate safety inspection of industrial facilities, an industry with estimated market size of billions of dollars. Nearthlab’s first product is an “all-in-one” automated inspection solution for wind turbine blades, which covers gathering visual data using drones, detecting cracks and damages by AI, and generating reports with minimal human involvement. Nearthlab is currently servicing numerous wind farms in Korea, with ongoing negotiations with various partners in Korea and overseas, including Japan and the United States, for wind farms and other facilities such as cell tower.
