Ever since accounting software was born, subsequent automation has been largely restricted to custom applications built on top and around accounting software for large enterprises. These help with document exchange (EDI), data capture, and connect the many workflows between a trade document being received/issued and payment. For most part, SMEs (and not just the tiny ones!) and their accounting providers have been left behind.
