Exocortex is a bootstrapped consulting and software product business targeting medium and high-end 3D artists and visual effects studios. Starting in 2012, Exocortex self-financed the creation of http://Clara.io, the freemium collaborative online 3D modeling, animation and rendering tool. Clara.io was announced in July 2013 and entered into open beta in November 2013. Exocortex received its first outside investment from Marc Petit in 2013. Marc Petit is also advising Exocortex on strategy. Marc Petit was formerly the Senior VP at Autodesk in charge of their $200M/year Media and Entertainment division. Exocortex products are widely used in the high end 3D market, especially on top Hollywood blockbusters including Harry Potter 7, Iron Man 3, Star Trek Into Darkness and The Avengers. http://Clara.io, the freemium online 3D editor, democratizes the 3D content creation market by making these tools and capabilities available to everyone, everywhere. Exocortex has partnered with ChaosGroup, the makers of the industry leading V-Ray renderer (used for example on Tron, the Transformers series, and Benjamin Button), in order to bring live cloud-based photorealistic rendering to http://Clara.io.
