Cadent is Britain&s;s largest gas network and maintains 131,000 kilometres of pipes supplying 11 million homes and businesses in the North West, Midlands, East and South East of England.[1][2][3][4] Cadent also manages the national gas emergency service free phone line on behalf of the gas industry in the UK. Calls made to the central hotline number (0800 111 999) are answered by Cadent staff in the Hinkley Operational Centre and then routed to engineers and other gas companies as required. As a gas distribution network owner - 4 of the 8 networks in the UK are owned by Cadent Gas - the company does not produce or own the gas that passes through their pipeline networks. Their responsibility stops at the gas shut off valve.
