The application was created by Howard Baines. On April 16, 2008, Alert Thingy [v 1.2 launched](http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/04/16/look-out-twhirl-alert-thingy-adds-twitter-support/), which included integration with the Twitter API, allowing users to post messages directly to Twitter.
